Free Bus Rides For Women In Delhi – A Dream Come True

The government of Delhi has announced that there will be free bus rides for women in Delhi from the 29 October.

Delhi is the capital of the world’s largest Democracy i.e. India, with a total population of 1.68 crores. Out of which there are approximately 6,243,273 women. Taking this in mind, it is really very difficult for a government to even provide some kind of discounts to a particular gender. But there are free bus rides for women in Delhi which started from 29 October 2019.

This could happen because of the promise that a chief minister made during his election. You are guessing it right, here we are talking about the chief minister of Delhi, Mr. Arvind Kejriwal.

Mr. Kejriwal fulfilled his promise of providing free rides to the women’s of the capital just month ahead of the assembly polls. The point we should focus on is the fact that this task was near to impossible. And that’s why no one even dreamt of doing it.

Delhi’s transport minister tweeted about this amazing news on 28 October 2019, he tweeted:

According to the Transport Minister of Delhi, there are more than 30% women travellers in DTC and cluster buses. This scheme will also be available for women travelling in Noida-NCR service, airport and other special services operated by the DTC and cluster scheme operators.

How The Government Shaped This Scheme

The first spark of this free bus rides for women in Delhi was heard during the Independence Day speech of Mr. Arvind Kejriwal. When he said that his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government will provide free-ride for women from the coming 29 October which was “Bhai Dooj”.

Later on 29 August, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government passed a bill for free rides for women in Delhi cabinet. Mr. Arvind Kejriwal even tried to bring DMRC under this Scheme but it is still a distant thing for the citizen of Delhi.

Regarding this DMRC director Mangu singh said,

Right now the metro fare system is actually a technology-based system. You have to understand that it is not manual where the person can stand and identify whether the beneficiary is a woman or not. The current smart card is transferable and anyone can use it.

Especially for the DMRC scheme implementation, Delhi assembly has also issued a grant of 150 crore.

Implementation Of The Scheme

As per the pre-aimed plan, conductors available in DTC buses will provide the Women passengers a specially made pink ticket having a face value of Rs.10 each for free travel. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government will then reimburse the amount to the transporters based on the number of such Pink tickets issued.

From that day onwards, there have been a lot of happy faces visible in DTC buses. And there is a sudden increase in the number of women travellers in DTC buses too. Making this scheme a successful one.

At the same time, the opposition is totally against this scheme. Calling it a propaganda and a leverage to the voters of Delhi.

Final Words

You are free to love it or criticize it. But you cannot deny the fact that this free rides for women in Delhi is probably the boldest move by any government. Thewordsplay thinks that if the Aam Aaadmi Party (AAP) government can keep it like this, then this scheme will surely revolutionize the way we travel in buses.
